A Personal Anecdote from Kaylynn

Thanks, Madeline

From a very young age I knew I wanted to do hair. If you had asked me then, the only answer I would have had for you was because.I distinctly remember the day. I couldn't have been more than four years old and I had found a pair of scissors in the bathroom drawer. Fascinated, I coveted the scissors, clear of parental supervision. At the time “Madeline” was one of my favorite cartoons and I wanted so much to be like her. Madeline had no bangs. I had bangs. It was then that I got my first taste of being a hairstylist. With two quick snips about an inch away from my scalp I thought I solved my bangs problem. My parents caught me not too long after the home haircut incident which resulted in a visit with my Nana at her hair salon in order to fix my newly shorn bangs.

The Dream is Born

Ever since then I have been fascinated by hair. Shadowing my Nana any time we visited her salon, I would watch her for hours; I knew I wanted to be part of this world. I was entranced by the delicate combination of chemistry, honed craft and artistic technique that are all part of being a stylist.

My Destiny Takes Shape

Fast forward ten years to high school. As a four-year member of the Cheer Team, for every practice, game and competition I was the go-to-girl for hair or makeup. Soon I was being asked to style Homecoming and Prom hair and to do event makeup. It was then that I realized I loved being a hands-on stylist!

My Career Takes Flight

For me the love of the trade didn't come from just doing hair, it was much more than that.It was about the experience that I was able to provide. To see people upset and struggling to pull together their best look, but knowing that I could help them get there, was empowering. Helping them allowed for me to both share my passion and put a smile on their face, giving them their confidence back.I am one of the truly lucky ones that gets to realize my dream on a daily basis. I do what I love and I love what I do, and the best part is that I get to share it with you.Welcome to HBK, come visit me anytime.

Sincerely,

Kaylynn
