Seven Secrets to Shiny Summer Hair

1. The Shine Hairbrush from Wet Brush

This brush is wonderful and unique because of it's bristle technology. The Shine Hairbrush has flexible bristles the help detangle the hair as they glide through as you brush. Boar bristles smooth the hair and at the same time, pull the hair strands downward, naturally distributing oils or product such as dry shampoo. This brush is a requirement in my bathroom and only costs about $10-$15. Say hello to shiny locks with this fabulous tool!

2. Clean Your Hairbrush

Fact: you should clean and replace your hairbrushes on the regular. If your hairbrush bristles are bent, missing bristle tips or lacking firmness its definitely time to replace your brush! If you take good care of your hairbrush, it can last a very long time, but I would still recommend replacing your hairbrush every 3 to 6 months. Using a brush that has bent bristles, bristles with missing tips, or with bristles that are no longer firm with only pull, snag and damage your hair, leaving it brittle and broken. Dull hair can come from the quality of your hairbrush. Now is a good time for a check, when was the last time you washed your brush?

3. Use Dry Shampoo at Night with a Good Brushing

If your hair tends to be oily, try a dry shampoo at night and use a Shine Brush to evenly distribute the dry shampoo. When you wake up in the morning, brush and style as desired and your hair will look good as new!

4. Cool Water

Every time you shower, try rinsing your hair with cooler water. Cool water helps to close the cuticle which will then help the hair to reflect more light.

5. Ice Cubes

Running an ice cube over your hair is a quick fix for shine if you're in a pinch. This hack works best on straight hair, resulting in radiant shine by sealing the cuticle, similar to a cool water rinse.

6. Olaplex

The Olaplex treatment system is perfect for achieving healthy, shiny hair. Healthy hair glows with shine. The Olaplex system ensures the health of your hair by rebuilding the bond of your hair, strengthening it with each application. Have your stylist or an in-salon professional treat your hair with steps one and two of the Olaplex system, following up at home with step number three! If you want to continue with the Olaplex treatment system, you can use components number four and number five (shampoo and conditioner) and then component number six which is the smoothing leave-in styling cream. Component number six is amazing and smells light and citrusy, a perfect compliment for most summertime scents. The Olaplex system helps to smooth, strengthen and protect the hair, leaving it soft and shiny. If you haven't tried it yet, be sure to ask your stylist about the Olaplex system

7. Color Gloss

Last but not least, during the summer months use a color gloss. A color gloss is a clear or translucent wash of color that is applied at the salon directly to your hair. An acidic formula seals the cuticle and can induce a diamond-like shine. Redken Shade EQ Color Gloss is a gloss that is almost as conditioning to your hair as an actual conditioner! It's perfect for anyone who colors their hair. Dull blondes can use color gloss to tone out the brass, brighten and add shine while brunettes and redheads can use a color gloss to add depth, richness and sparkle. If you don't color your hair but still want all the benefits, have your stylist do a clear gloss. High shine with no damage? Yes please, count me in!
